A Letter to My Husband On Father's Day

My darling love,

father-with-babies

If someone would have shown us what our life is like today back in our carefree, college days, I would have never believed them.

Life with you has been more wonderful than anything I could have ever imagined, and this journey we share together has brought me more joy than I deserve.

Seeing you become a father, from the moment our first born came into the world, has been a gift that I will always treasure and be thankful for.

The happiest memories I have are of you at the births of each of our five children, seeing you beam with pride, joy, humbleness, and gratitude all in one moment.

I have never underestimated your capacity to father our children, but seeing you in action never ceases to amaze me.

From the most mundane tasks to the greatest responsibilities, you are always engaged, always present. You have been unwavering in your commitment to our family, in how you love, care, protect, nurture and provide.

I am grateful for your constant dedication to our marriage through all the changes and challenges of having five children.

You’ve always kept a small piece of crumpled paper on your dresser with a quote by John Wooden that reads:

"The best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother."

While date nights are rare, and even finding moments to speak to each other throughout the day can feel challenging, I have never felt more loved by you.

We have had our share of ups and downs, challenges that inevitably come with navigating parenthood.  No matter the season, through times of joy and sorrow, your love is steadfast and enduring.

Through all the messiness and chaos involved with raising children, you have been right there with me every step of the way.

I cannot think of anyone more wonderful to share this parenting journey with and am humbled that you are the father of our children.

Thank you for everything you do, often unseen and without thanks, from working tirelessly to provide for our family to changing diapers and everything in between.

The things you do, though they may seem small and insignificant, speak volumes to me and do not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

The countless times you have rocked a crying baby to sleep, stayed up all night comforting sick babies only to wake up and go to work in the morning, coming home after a long day and playing with our children; teaching, guiding, disciplining, encouraging, supporting, sharing, loving - everything has given them an unshakeable foundation of love from which to grow.

You have given us your everything, and I could not be more thankful for the truly amazing father that you are.

Thank you for being the leader of our family and demonstrating unconditional love to us each and every day.  I love you with all my being and know each of our children think the world of you.

Happy Father’s Day my love, I love you forever and always.
